Crestwood Mall, which was renamed Crestwood Court after the sale of the property a couple weeks ago, will be partially demolished and turned into an open-air lifestyle center. Specific plans have not been drawn, but the new owner said the property will have a "town center" feel, as well as an expanded movie theather, restaurants, and the possibility to host outdoor concerts.
This is obviously great news for the struggling mall, which has seen retailers consistently leaving over the past couple years, and one of the main anchors - Dillard's - closing shop in October.
As seems to be the case often with real estate, things come full circle, which seems to be what is happening with Crestwood. The mall was originally an open type plaza before renovations in the early 1980s.
I'm in the camp that hopes a renovation of the property will give resurgence to not only the mall, but also the area. There are numerous strip malls that hover on Watson with vacancies, yet they keep building.
I think the renovation will have to possess that wow factor that will make people want to come there. The competition is fierce, with Galleria, West County, Frontenac and South County all continuing to improve their centers, and being within 6 miles of Crestwood - and with easy interstate access.

Like you, I really hope this breathes some life back into that area. It's the nearest mall to me, and I'd love to see a great new renovated space!
Oh Crestwood, why do I still brave your empty halls filled with questionable patrons? Probably because you are 5 minutes away from my house, you saucy minx.
Here's hoping this renovation is as sweet as it sounds.
